Needed

Special People for Special Dogs

Scrappy

Scappy Head On a nasty and bone-chilling cold rainy February 2010 day, a call came to me from the local shelter that there was a senior Papillon just one day away from getting the needle. So, a fellow Pap 911 member and I drove to the shelter to pull who we now know as "Scrappy". A 14y/o neutered male sable Papillon, Scrappy was an owner surrender because they were moving and didn't want to take him.

Scrappy needed a dental badly, and that is the first thing we took care of. He is nearly deaf, and his eye site is not what it once was. His back legs don't always work in unison, but they still get him where he needs to be...just slower. He loves car rides and will walk for miles with his head and tail held high and proud for all to see!
Scrappy Walking
He is the perfect picture of a grumpy old man, knowing his seniority allows him the best bed in the place and earns him loving forgiveness for an occasional accident or startled grumble. He is tolerant of all of his house mates.  When he's had enough, 2 hoarse sounding barks lets everyone know to knock it off.  He sometimes has a hard time with stairs, although he seems to get stronger every day. He has the most beautiful coat, ears and fringe, and one ear droops and frames his precious face. Though he's not a big eater, second to taking long walks, dinner time is the most exciting time of the day.

Scrappy loves his bed and sleeps much of the day there. At night he sleeps in a crate, but will also sleep in his bed next to mine. He is 95% housetrained.  He's beginning to realize that a human hand can end in a most relaxing ear and back rub/scratch. THAT he LOVES, and shows his appreciation with low guttural moans..Very funny!!
Scrappy Siiting
Scrappy should never have been dumped at an animal control shelter. He should have had family around him in his sunshine years. Fortunately, Pap 911 Rescue puts a lot of value on our senior butterflies and he has had the vetting and care he deserves. He's very low maintenance, no pills, no trouble and he really needs you.  He will be a wonderful addition to a senior savy home with or without other dogs.

We hope he will be chosen to spend quality quiet time with someone who loves him for the proud beautiful butterfly that he is. So any of you dog lovers out there that have room, consider him. We know he is safe and loved forever in the Pap 911 family, but he deserves to have a home of his own.

Thank you!Scrappy in Lap

546 Total Intake since 4/2004
37 New Paps in 2010
22 Adopted in 2010
463 in Forever Homes
79 in Foster Care
    including 11 in Sanctuary Care
    10 Adoptions Pending
    8 Puppies

Actually, Pap 911 Rescue has less than 40 dogs ready for adoption. Our sanctuary dogs are aging and their illnesses are costly. But it has always been Pap 911 Rescue group's honor to be the home of this special population.

Spring has come to the puppy mills and breeding time is already starting. Those Papillons who do not produce - who do not pay their way - will be culled. They are "sold down the river" to an even more cruel life or thrown away like useless garbage.

It is important for us to be there to speak for every one - They cannot speak for themselves.

Please hold out your hands, and  make a butterfly safe.

Until There Are None
